Product Description:
Nine mothers explore the intense, sometimes painful, emotional terrain of
raising a child with a disability. The children who have shpaed these women's
lives have a variety of special needs including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral
palsy, and ADD. The narratives discuss the successes, setbacks, struggles, and
joys these women experience. The common themes that emerge - being heard and
feeling understood; dealing with greater emotional intensity than most parents
do; coping; and healing - provide a vivid portrait of what these mothers and
others like them find most important and most difficult.
